GET INVOLVED

We are always looking for volunteers to join our program. Are you eligible to become a Senior Companion? You must be:

  • 55+ with reliable transportation
  • Willing to serve a minimum of 5+ hours per week.
  • Able to pass a background check

Fill out a volunteer application! You can download the form here, or contact our Volunteer Services Coordinator. Once we have received your application, we will schedule a training. You will spend a few hours getting to know the program and have lunch on us! Once you have completed your training, you will shadow one of our seasoned volunteers until you feel comfortable accepting your own assignments. Your Volunteer Services Coordinator, county Volunteer Leads, and our sponsor Panhandle Health District are here to support you each step of the way!

Each volunteer works with their county Volunteer Leads and the Volunteer Service Coordinator to create a schedule that fits them. You can volunteer as few as 5 or as many as 40 hours a week. Visits can last from 2-4 hours, or you can spend the day or afternoon with your client. Everything depends on your schedule and your preference!

Clients and volunteers are matched based on a number of considerations. Whenever possible, shared interests and experiences are used to ensure a good fit. Many volunteers and clients form lasting friendships that continue for many years!

Volunteers attend monthly meetings, additional educational opportunities, annual awards, and other events through the program. At our monthly meetings, we learn about the program and hear expert speakers on topics related to aging ranging from exercise and nutrition to dementia and mental health. Monthly meetings are also a great opportunity to get to know other volunteers! 96% of our volunteers say that they have made new friends through our program.

Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action: Persons may not be denied eligibility to become Senior Companions based on formal education, employment experience, citizenship, race, creed, color, age (except as provided by law), national origin, sex, handicap or political affiliation.

"I wish to express my deep gratitude for the services available to senior through your agency. As a senior benefiting from services such as trips to the grocery store, doctor’s appointments, and kindness above the call of duty, all calls are handled with patience and compassion.”
